Colic and Constipation in infants. Homeopathy naturopath in Brisbane

Colic in Babies

Are you a tired mum worried about your baby’s crying?

Morkare Natural Clinic is a Brisbane-based, leading naturopath and homeopath clinic in Australia who has been helping many Australians Mums and Infants online and in person in getting a better night sleep and reduce “cry babies”.

What is colic?

Colic is a condition that causes babies to cry inconsolably for long periods of time. It is thought to be caused by a combination of factors, including stress, delayed maturity of the gut and immune system, nutritional deficiencies, infections, and poor gut microbiome.

We have a natural treatment to manage Colic with the help of our Naturopaths, Nutritionists, and Homeopaths.

Symptoms

  • Symptoms of colic

The symptoms of colic typically start at around 3 weeks of age and resolve by around 4 months. They include:

    • Intense, inconsolable crying for hours on end
    • Clenched fists, arched back, and knees pulled up to tummy
    • Red or flushed face when crying
    • Tummy rumbling
    • Excess wind in abdomen
    • Frowning and grimacing
    • Crying stops after passing a big poo or wind

      Causes of colic

The exact cause of colic is unknown, but it is thought to be caused by a combination of factors, including:

      • Stress: Research has shown that babies of stressed parents are more likely to have colic. This is because stress hormones can pass through breast milk.
      • Delayed maturity of the gut and immune system: The gut and immune system are not fully developed in newborns. This can make them more susceptible to colic.
      • Nutritional deficiencies: Mothers who are low in certain nutrients, such as vitamin D and iron, during pregnancy may be more likely to have babies with colic.
      • Infections: Infections, such as thrush and candida, can upset the gut microbiome and cause colic.
      • Poor gut microbiome: The gut microbiome is the community of trillions of bacteria that live in the gut. A healthy gut microbiome is essential for digestion and overall health. A poor gut microbiome may be a factor in colic.
      • Cow’s milk allergy: Some babies may be allergic to cow’s milk protein. If a breastfeeding mother consumes cow’s milk, it can pass through breast milk and cause colic in her baby.
      Treatment for colic

At Morkare Natural Clinic, we believe in treating the whole body. For colic, we treat both mother and child simultaneously. We work on the mother’s immunity, gut microbiome, and stress levels, as well as the child’s immunity and gut function.

      We support the mother by:
      • Managing stress: We use holistic treatments to manage stress.
      • Managing diet: We provide dietary plans for our patients if needed.
      • Identifying and treating nutritional deficiencies and allergies: We test our patients for nutritional deficiencies and allergies and recommend supplements as needed.
      • Treating infections: We help our patients treat any infections that may be contributing to a poor gut microbiome.
      • Boosting the immune system: We help our patients boost their immune system to fight off infection and promote healing.
      • Improving the gut microbiome: We help our patients improve their gut microbiome, which can help reduce inflammation and improve overall health.
      • Identifying and managing food intolerances and allergies: We test patients for allergies and intolerances and manage the condition accordingly.
We support the colic baby by:
      • Identifying and managing food intolerances and allergies: We identify if the newborn or baby shows signs of allergies and intolerances and then manage the condition accordingly.
      • Improving the gut microbiome: We gently work on the baby’s gut to reduce colic symptoms.
      • Reducing pain and inflammation: We use a gentle and natural approach to manage pain.

We highly recommend consulting with our team of highly qualified natural health practitioners at Morkare for personalized guidance. Our treatments complement most other natural and conventional treatments.

There are things that parents can do to try to soothe their baby and make them more comfortable. These include:
        • Feeding your baby on demand: This will help to ensure that your baby is not hungry or thirsty.
        • Burping your baby frequently: This will help to release any trapped air in your baby’s tummy.
        • Swaddling your baby: This can help to calm and soothe your baby.
        • Holding your baby close: This can help to make your baby feel safe and secure.
        • Playing white noise: This can help to drown out other noises and soothe your baby.
        • Giving your baby a massage: This can help to relax your baby and ease any gas or wind.
      • Stay Calm and create a calming atmosphere
      • Change the environment
      • Avoid overstimulating your child

Check for tongue-ties and try to resolve it.
